Gingerbread was brought to Europe in 992 AD by the Armenian monk Gregory of Nicopolis. He left Nicopolis Pompeii, to live in Bondaroy, France, near the town of Pithiviers. He was able to teach the art of Gingerbread making to French priests before his death in 999. |
